What is CrossFit ?

If you are like most people you will think of rows of machines and banks of cardio equipment. Workouts are comprised of structured sets on a series of machines. The machines bear the majority of the load, setting an artificial line of action, forcing your body to follow its path. People sit on stationary bicycles, reading a magazine and getting in their 30 minutes of “cardio” before their strength training. Throughout these gyms there are a multitude of places to either sit down, or lay down to workout. There is no creativity, no variance, only a structured environment for the masses.

Why Athletes CrossFit

We are lucky at CrossFit Aurora to now have several world class athletes who train with us and the reason that they use CrossFit to supplement their training is because the understand that athletiscisim is extremely important to them regardless of their specific sport.

CrossFit can fill a lot of gaps in an athletes training.  If you are doing only basic lifting, or only olympic lifting, or only doing plyometrics then your training is purely one dimensional.  CrossFit combines many of these facets of training into one workout and helps to pick up the weak areas that sport specific training create.

CrossFit teaches an athlete how to push hard.  Athletes need to learn how to deal with the pain and how to use their sport specific skills when under a high degree of stress. 

So whether your sport is skiing, snowboarding, hockey or triathlons you can benefit from including CrossFit in your training regimen.
